Student Presentation - Concussions

Student Presentation - Concussions

What is a concussion?

Middle Schooler Tony B. presented this question to his classmates during a presentation on Monday, September 11.  He shared his experience on what it was like living with multiple concussions last year and how it affected his ability to be in school.  Tony worked very hard throughout the summer on making up work and was dedicated to weekly meetings with Mrs. Williams, our Middle School Head, School Nurse Megan Buchanan, teacher Kate Joubert, and Occupational Therapist Kristi Langlset.

A panel of experts including Mrs. Buchanan, Tony, his mother, and his football coach, were on hand to discuss causes and recovery.  Tony ended the presentation with an overview of what he named "The Concussion-Proof Helmet".  He reviewed what the helmet would be made of and how it would help others stay safe while they play a sport they love.  The slides below were shown to Middle School students.  Be sure to read through Tony's helmet design.

Thank you Tony and our panel guests for sharing your story and insight.
